Just before 9 tonight, I double checked that Dirty Sexy Money was still on CTV at 10pm this evening, like it has been since the premier.
Turns out it was on at 7 and I missed it. I can’t even figure out why – I know baseball is doing its best to ruin TV right now, but baseball doesn’t air on CTV, and I’m pretty sure that Dirty Sexy Money isn’t actually simulcast with its US counterpart (for some reason they decided to air their programming on different nights than the US).
Not only does this happen with baseball (and probably other sporting events), but also American Idolloves to take over TV – it seems to be on 2-3 night a week for 1-2 hours each night. In the States, it would just wreck Fox‘s schedule, but up here it wrecks our two most popular major networks. This is due to the fact that 99% of Global‘s programming simulcasts with Fox, so Global is forced to run reruns because American Idol takes over and the new ones aren’t licensed up here without them running on Fox too. Then American Idol runs on CTV – both are pretty much shut down (unless you love American Idol, which apparently everyone does aside from me). This gets people out of the habit of sitting down to watch the programs on the odd occasion that they do play in their “regular” time slots.
As someone who works in the ad industry, I know how worried everyone is about PVRs and downloading – people will zap through the ads (or not even have to worry about them at all if it’s downloaded). That means lower ratings on the part of the stations, and that’s bad news for everyone else involved. Less people watching means less exposure means less awareness/sales.
But really, you make it so hard for me to watch the few programs that I make a point of watching every week – you’re punishing your loyal viewers!
Now excuse me while I go download Dirty Sexy Money and watch it – ad-free.
I just saw a completely deceptive ad for the Toyota Prius.
First it shows people doing things like planting trees and cleaning up parks. Then it says that the guy driving a Prius is “cleaning the air.” That is an absolute lie!
Don’t get me wrong. I think that driving a hybrid is a great step in the right direction, since it obviously doesn’t make the air as “dirty” as a non-hybrid. But last time I looked into it, hybrid technology does not remove emissions from the air in any way, shape, or form. And they didn’t just try to imply that it cleans the air. They flat out said “[some guy's name] is cleaning the air”.
As if (some) people who drive hybrids weren’t pretentious enough, now you’re going to try to make them think they’re actually reversing air pollution?!
Remember that season that came between summer and winter?
Not only woud the leaves turn pretty colours (which inevitably happens – a lot of that has to do with the amount of daylight/darkness), but there used to be a period of time where temperatures were less than 25 and more than -10. And I’m not talking about a few days. Back in my day, fall (aka autumn) used to last for a month or maybe longer (it’s been so long since this increasingly rare phenomenon has occurred, I can’t really remember it exactly).
Remember sweaters? But not heavy bulky sweaters that you wear in winter to try to stay warm when it’s -30 outside. There used to be a day when you could wear lighter weight sweaters, and (get this) you could wear them outside.. without a jacket!! I’m not making this up people. Days like that used to exist, and for long enough that it was worthwhile spending money on clothes just for this season.
