Explodingdog

April 17th, 2009 Alison

Explodingdog is artwork by Sam Brown (aka Adam Culbert), drawn based on titles his fans send in. A while ago I sent him “I didn’t sleep well last night” and he drew this:

Awesome!

So a few days this week on the explodingdog twitter, Sam has asked his followers to draw “with” him. Because I love drawing in MS Paint so much, I was game. Here are the three drawings I did this week with Sam Brown of explodingdog:

Monday - Why Did I Pick Monday To Give Up Coffee

Tuesday - Tiger Tuesday

(Sam liked this one enough to compliment it!)

Embarrassed Seagull (Tom)

July 2nd, 2008 Alison

The other day, Matt, Kristen and I went down to the Harbour Front to waste some time. While we were sitting on a bench resting, this seagull (who we later named “Tom”) saw a fry in a clear plastic garbage bag.

Being a seagull, Tom didn’t understand that just because he could see the fry, didn’t mean he could get at it. So he went for it through the bag. It moved, but obviously he didn’t get the fry out. Kristen and I saw this happen, and Tom was really embarrassed.

After this, Tom walked (very suavely) around a bit and ate a few other things he saw around, but he was pretty tame in what he went for. It was obviously because he knew we were watching him, and didn’t want to embarrass himself again!

Dan and his Mermaid

May 17th, 2008 Alison

Matt’s friend Dan brings his roommate with him whenever he goes to a party etc, so it’s a running joke that it’s his boyfriend. Yesterday, Matt was telling us that “Dan and his boyfriend were taking a bunch of Red Bull..” but it sounded like he said “Dan and his mermaid…”

Minty Cristo?!

March 2nd, 2008 Alison

We went to Fran’s for dinner tonight (like we do at least a few times a month), and as usual, Matt ordered a Monte Cristo Sandwich. I had one too! When the cheque came, I ate my mint right away. Matt asked what happened to mine, and and I told him I ate mine.

At this point I have say that we call our cat, named Mittens, Mint for short.. because she loves mint. A lot.

So when I said I ate mine, Matt asked “You ate Mint?!”, to which I responded “Yes.. I had a Minty Cristo Sandwich!” HA!

Our Trip To Tremblant

February 14th, 2008 Alison

Matt, Andre, Dan and I went to Mont Tremblant last weekend, for just the weekend.

We flew out Saturday morning from the Toronto City Centre Airport on Porter Airlines. After two aborted landings due to the weather (something to do with either wind, clouds, or both), we finally landed. We then proceeded to get on the shuttle. After realizing that the lady was wrong to tell us we didn’t need tags for our bags, we ended up getting our own personal shuttle (the others had filled up while we were going back in to make sure we got our bags at the hotel).

On the way to the mountain, we saw lots of deer, horses, cows, and I saw a huge dog. Then, only an hour behind schedule, we got to Tremblant. It was a great time. We snowboarded (or skied in Andre’s case) for hours, and spent a lot of time in the trees. At one point, there was a big gap that Andre didn’t see until it was too late.. I didn’t see this happen, but Matt and Dan thought Andre broke his back the way it was arched! Based on their descriptions, it looked something like this:

We went to bed early, because we got up at 6:30am the next day so we could be at the gondola 7am to go for First Tracks. If you ever go to Tremblant, I highly recommend that you do this. You go up the gondola at 7:15am, have a buffet breakfast, then at 8am, you get the first run of the day! And it had snowed about 5cm, so it was like flying!

After we got too tired to be on the hills anymore, we changed, got some lunch, and then had to sit around for hours, since check-out time is 11am, and the shuttle back to the airport didn’t come until 6:25pm. There were no change rooms (I had to change in a tiny bathroom stall), and aside from a few couches, there wasn’t really anywhere to hang out (without spending money at a bar).

After the approx 4 hours we spent on the couches, we finally got on the shuttle to go back to the airport. I use that term loosely. It was more like a chalet with a runway outside. Once you got checked by security (who confiscated our half tube of toothpaste.. oh well), there was no bathroom. I had to go out, then get checked again. Our flight was also delayed, but since this place was far from high tech (when it was finally time to board, a dude ran up the stairs to tell us), there was no indication of how late it would be. At one point, we could hear dance music playing.. I guess the plane was having a dance party, and that’s why it was delayed!

Once we finally did get on the plane, it was a crazy bumpy ride.. I swear the plane was going on an angle at one point! But the pilot was a pro and got us home safely!

All in all, it was a great trip, but a bit too much for just a weekend..

Snowboarding - Jan 26/08

January 27th, 2008 Alison

Matt, Andre, Dan and I all went snowboarding at Blue Mountain yesterday. The glades weren’t as good as usual, so we just rode around a bit, then at the end of the night, we went to the Greatest Hits beginner park.

First I went through, went over the first kicker, then hit another little jump thing and landed, then fell. I missed Matt and Dan going through, but right as Dan came up beside me after going, he caught an edge and landed hard on his bum. He said it felt like either his had bowels released, or he was bleeding.. this is probably what it would have looked like if that had happened:

Then at the end of the night, we were happy with the nice change room that our new Honda Element SC made with the suicide style doors - you can stand between them and strip down to your undies to change into jeans. Then you don’t have to wear your snow pants when you stop for dinner on the way home! This is how it works:

Not every gift is easy to wrap..

January 17th, 2008 Alison

Sometimes it’s hard to wrap a gift. Some things are either intangible, or too big/obviously shaped.

For Christmas 2006, there were two such gifts that I was giving. The first was taking our friends snowboarding as their gift. That’s not a thing, so you can’t really wrap it. The second was giving Matt his Fender P-Bass (well only half was from me.. but I still got to physically give it to him). The shape of guitar boxes is always the same, and therefore obvious.

So what can you do in this type of situation? Draw a paint drawing of it and put that in a box and wrap the box.. obviously!

**This was from before Matt had tried snowboarding, so he thought he would hate it.. he was sooooo wrong!

I Don’t Like “Shut Up”…

January 7th, 2008 Alison

This is a new drawing.. for the first time in ages!! (Because the other ones up to this point were all preexisting that I just decided I should do something with)

So today, Matt and I were talking about things we used to say as kids, and this one came up:

I don’t like “shut up,” I like 7 Up, I barf it up, you lick it up.

I tried looking for the phrase on Google, but there were no hits! Now there will be.. and it finally made me make a new drawing! Yay!

Vegging on the couch

I had 11 days off in a row.. and I hardly even got to do much of this! But here it is anyway…

I would stalk your coffee date..

December 30th, 2007 Alison

My friend was asked out by a boy that I thought I would be really good friends with, so I wanted her to date him so I could be friends with him. And I would stalk them on the date. I drew this for her to understand how it would go down.
